Nick Brown

Raised just outside Bakersfield, California, Nick spent much of his youth exploring the desert in search of lizards, squirrels, kit foxes, snakes and plenty of insects. He was often outdoors, hiking, exploring and developing an early interest in the wildlife that thrived in unexpected places. Growing up among the oil fields of Kern County, he became fascinated by the ways plants and animals adapted to altered environments, an experience that sparked a lasting interest in biology and ecology.

Inspired by these early experiences, Nick attended California State University of Monterey Bay, where he pursued studies in the natural sciences. During his time there, he developed a strong interest in marine ecosystems and began scuba diving as a way to better understand life beneath the surface. What started as a curiosity quickly became a central focus of his work and studies. Despite having seen the ocean only a handful of times before college, he progressed to becoming a scuba instructor within a few years.

Today, Nick combines his interests in marine ecology, diving and education to help others better understand the natural world. He enjoys sharing stories from the field and introducing travelers to the remarkable diversity of life found both above and below the water.

His long-term goal is to encourage stewardship of wild places by helping people build a stronger connection to the environments and species that make them unique. Wildlife, he often notes, is remarkably resilient.
