Ossie Michelin

Ossie is a Labrador Inuk from the community of North West River, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, and currently lives in Montreal, Quebec. He works as a cultural specialist with National Geographic–Lindblad Expeditions, focusing on Indigenous cultures across Northern and Eastern Canada. Through this work, he draws on his cultural background and knowledge of the region to provide context on the people, communities and traditions connected to the places guests encounter.

Ossie recently completed his master’s degree in Arctic and Subarctic Studies at Memorial University in Newfoundland, further developing his knowledge of northern regions and their cultures. His academic background complements his work in the field and provides another perspective for examining the histories, experiences and contemporary realities of communities throughout the North.

When he is not studying or working with National Geographic–Lindblad Expeditions, Ossie works as a journalist and documentary filmmaker. His reporting and filmmaking provide an Indigenous lens on news, arts, culture and the environment, bringing attention to stories and perspectives from Indigenous communities. Across his work as a Cultural Specialist, journalist and filmmaker, Ossie combines academic study, cultural knowledge and storytelling to explore the relationships between people, place and identity in Northern and Eastern Canada.
