Victoria, British Columbia

Oct 09, 2017 - National Geographic Quest

We spent the entire day in the beautiful city of Victoria, the capital of British Columbia.  National Geographic Quest was docked downtown, right in front of the Empress Hotel - a short walk from beautiful and historic buildings, and fine chocolate, book and tea shops.  We had several options today, including bicycling, exploring the Royal British Columbia Museum, private gardens tours, and a historic walking tour of the city.  At the end of the day we enjoyed a private reception at the Robert Bateman Center, and saw paintings by this celebrated Canadian wildlife artist.

Berit Solstad

Berit grew up on the rocky shores of Marblehead, Massachusetts. In the tidal cove behind her family’s home she found horseshoe crabs, eels, and feeding frenzies of fishes and birds. Low tides exposed clam flats, crabs, mussels, and snails. She explored this marine environment through changing tides and seasons, nurturing a love of natural history and marine biology.
