Dec 22, 2017 - National Geographic Sea Bird
From sunrise to sundown, Baja California opened our minds and bodies while in the presence of sea and desert beauty. Taking refuge from the wind, the National Geographic Sea Bird anchored in the large and protected bay of Ensendada Grande. Here we plunged into clear blue waters in search of eels, damselfish, and puffers. Other explorers paddled across ocean waves in search of a passing sea lion, heron near the shore, and crystal-clear views of the seafloor below. In the afternoon, many took to the trail, gawking at towering Cardon cacti and mindfully avoiding other small spines and brambles hiding between lava rocks and red dirt. The trail’s end rewarded us with cliff-side views of the Sea of Cortez and our return was hastened by the knowledge that cocktails and appetizers awaited us back at the ship.
