Beqa Island, Fiji

May 25, 2018 - National Geographic Orion

After an action packed fortnight exploring Polynesia and Melanesia, guests enjoyed a more leisurely morning on board National Geographic Orion. As we made our way towards Beqa Island guests listened to lectures by Guest Speaker Joe McGuiness and Naturalist Jimmy White. Those that ventured to the bow recorded a great variety of seabirds over the flat calm sea conditions.

After a BBQ lunch, afternoons activities began and guests snorkeled, hiked, or visited the local communities on the island of Beqa.

About the Author

James Coleman

Naturalist

Jamie is from England. He grew up in Oxford, about as far from the sea as you can get in the UK, yet somehow decided he would work in marine biology and conservation. Ever since he reached his teens, he has dedicated time to this passion, working and volunteering in various roles on nature reserves and in aquariums. It was no surprise that in 2007, he left home to study marine biology at the University of Newcastle.
