Santa Cruz Island

Dec 13, 2018 - National Geographic Endeavour II

This morning National Geographic Endeavour II anchored in Academy Bay located on the southern end of Santa Cruz Island. This island is home to the headquarters of the Galapagos National Park Service. This morning we went to the breeding center for Galapagos giant tortoises, and afterwards our guests had a chance to explore the town of Puerto Ayora on their own.

During the afternoon, we went looking for giant tortoises in the wild. These reptiles are in the process of making the annual migration to their breeding grounds. This afternoon we encountered many males and females having a good time feeding on the grasses in one of the local farms located in their migratory path.
