Feb 13, 2019 - National Geographic Endeavour II
Today National Geographic Endeavour II visited Cerro Dragon, located in the northern part of Santa Cruz Island, and home to one of the largest colonies of land iguanas. During our hike, we spotted many of them engaging in different behaviors. Some of them were eating the vegetation around, and others were trying to entice females with the zig/zag head movement that they do, to impress the ladies and delineate their territory. When we returned to the ship, an Ecuadorian buffet lunch was set up in the dining room. We started with the traditional ceviche and ended up with tres leches dessert!
Zodiac rides and snorkeling were offered for our afternoon activities today. Wildlife was all over the place, including spotted eagle rays, sharks, blue-footed boobies, great blue herons, marine iguanas and hundreds of other animals. It was a fascinating afternoon, reminding us of why the Galapagos archipelago is so special.
