Santa Cruz Island

Oct 08, 2019 - National Geographic Endeavour II

Today National Geographic Endeavour II arrived at Academy Bay, on the southern side of Santa Cruz Island. The town of Puerto Ayora was visible at the distance as the sun arose from the ocean to illuminate the thin mist covering the bay.

In the morning, we visited the Charles Darwin Research Station to learn about one of the most successful captive breeding programs in the world.

In the afternoon, we visited the natural reserve called El Chato and we were able to observe giant tortoises in the wild.
