Cruising Strait and Wallace Island

Guests aboard National Geographic Venture were treated to a late start, and a late morning brunch. We cruised through the Georgia Strait looking for wildlife such as a humpback whale. In the afternoon we dropped anchor and went ashore on Wallace Island for afternoon operations.

Nathan Kelley

Naturalist/Certified Photo Instructor

Nathan grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois.  He developed his love for nature as a kid at his family’s cabin in Northern Wisconsin.  Family fishing trips, camping, hiking and a trip to his first National Park in the Everglades, all vigorously shaped his passion for the natural world.  After graduating with a degree in Cinema and Photography from Southern Illinois University in the heart of the Shawnee National Forest, he moved to Southern California to work as a camera operator and photographer in a wide range of projects including work for the National Geographic Society.  His photography has also been exhibited in galleries and in publications.

Video Chronicler

David Pickar is a native of Portland, Oregon. He studied anthropology at the University of Oregon, then spent several years working as a field archaeologist. Participating in excavations in countries like Jordan, Belize and Italy and in every corner of the US, allowed him to witness culture and the environment from an unusual perspective.
