The historic sailing yacht Sea Cloud anchored overnight in Kapatola Port at Amorgos Island, one of the most remote islands in the Cyclades.
Coaches transferred guests via a dramatic switchback road to the monastery of Panagia Hozoviotissa. In order to visit the monastery, our group ascended the road of over 300 cobbled steps. Looking up, one can see the monastery’s brisk whitewashed walls etched into the steep cliffs, hanging above a precipitous 150m drop straight to the azure waters below. Visiting the monastery also meant climbing through a labyrinth of small hallways and ladder-like stairwells.
The morning continued with a visit to charming Hora, a village out of sight from any would-be pirates of the past entering Kapatola Plort.
Throughout the afternoon, the Aegean Sea gave us great winds, allowing Sea Cloud’s captain to unfurl the sails and open the foredeck for guests seeking a little adventure on the bowsprit.
