Early morning found National Geographic Venture at anchor in Bahia Las Animas. Zodiacs departed the fantail at 6:00 a.m. for a sunrise cruise of the small islets in the region. For those who kept their eye on the ball, a dramatic Green Flash was seen at dawn. The ship transitioned to Isla Rasa for late morning operations where we observed Heermann’s gulls and elegant terns in their breeding glory. We spent the afternoon on Isla San Esteban hiking in a broad arroyo system, hunting for a view of the elusive chuckwalla.
