Today we had a great morning exploring one of the most studied tropical rainforest of the world, Barro Colorado Island also known as BCI, which will translated into something like Red Clay Island. The Island used to be part of main land before the construction of the Panama Canal. When the valley was flooded to create the Gatun Lake, the top of a hill became BCI, which became the biggest island in the canal.

Many scientists have conducted long-term researches in anything you can think of, from rainfall, to leaf cutter ants, bats, DNA, and whatever else comes to mind. The Smithsonian Institute has managed the island and research stations almost since day one.
