Valparaiso to Arica, Chile

It's not ALL early morning wake-up calls and wet landings on an expedition ship, although there are plenty of those. We are on our way from Valparaiso to Arica, in northernmost Chile. This morning we crossed the Tropic of Capricorn, the imaginary line at 23 ½ degrees South latitude where the sun is overhead at noon on December 21. We have entered the tropics, and a tropical feel was most definitely in the air. After spending the day soaking in the warm sun, we gathered on the foredeck for a sundown celebration. With Bartender Merek Slominski shaking Pisco sours (made with a Chilean brandy; beware!) with panache, we watched the sun sink into a tropical sea and adjourned for our evening meal served on the pool deck. Life is good.
