Sunrise found the Caledonian Star on a dramatic approach to the harbor of Bonifacio on the south end of Corsica. The harbor entrance consists of a mile-long narrow passage through the limestone cliffs and it is easy to see why Bonifacio was such a strategic and well-protected harbor. Because of it's location and excellent defensive capabilities Bonifacio has had a long history of siege and being coveted by several powers. Though part of France, it has a very Italian feel to it.

After breakfast we boarded our wheeled "trains" for our morning tour. The old section of the town is perched on the cliff face and was very easy to defend. After a couple of hours on the tour we had ample free time to shop some of the stores or relax with a café ole before boarding the ship for lunch.

The exit from town was equally dramatic and in places the pass was not as wide as our ship is long! After lunch we joined William and Neil in the lounge for another view of the microscopic plankton world and then had a relaxing day at sea.
