Victoria

The dynamic columns of water of the Ross Fountain in the Butchart Gardens were the prelude to a delightful day. The fountain was created in 1964 to celebrate the sixtieth anniversary of these magnificent gardens located just north of Victoria, on Vancouver Island. As we walked through the labyrinths of flowers, we became part of the landscape among begonias, camellias, chrysanthemum, foxglove, lilies, dahlias, daisies, fuchsias and roses of unthinkable colors. In the afternoon we had the opportunity to wander through the streets, parks and museums of this unique city which is the capital of the Canadian Province of British Columbia. As we left the dock to navigate through the waters of the San Juan Islands, we passed a couple of Minke whales that were feeding in the area. To top the day, we encountered a pod of the Southern resident killer whales slowly swimming into the sunset.
