Dartmouth, England

After leaving London last night the Endeavour set out down the Thames into the English Channel to begin our trip around the British Isles. We were scheduled to have an entire day at sea. The wind had been blowing for a couple of days so the seas were lumpy as we made our way west.

During the morning we took care of our emergency drills after which Brent Houston gave an excellent talk on sea birds of the North Atlantic. After lunch Tom showed an entertaining video about the search for longitude in ship navigation.

For most of the day we had been making good speed towards our next days destination, Dartmouth which lies along the Dart River. Such good speed that we arrived early and sailed into the mouth of the river and moored in the middle of the channel. We had excellent views of low level fading light on the opposite side of town from where some of us went ashore after dinner.

Dartmouth has a long naval history and was known for its exports including both wool and grain. It also was a stopping point for the Mayflower before it continued on to America.
