Isabela and Fernandina Islands
We started our expedition’s day with a wonderful sunrise in the volcanoes of Isabela. The western side of Galápagos has always had a special magic; you never know what you can find at this place. This morning during our navigation, we encountered a group of blue footed boobies diving and also some frigate birds trying to get a free ride aboard our ship. Continuing with the navigation, we crossed the Equator Line. This was a very especial event for our guests, because it was the first time for them to cross the Equator in the Galápagos. Later in the morning, some of our guests decided to do a coastal exploration in search of the Mola Mola (sun fish) which is typical of this area. Some others went kayaking along the coast of volcano Ecuador, where they found green see turtles, flightless cormorants, penguins and sea lions.
In the afternoon after our Ecuadorian buffet lunch, we all enjoyed a wonderful snorkeling at Punta Espinoza, Fernandina Island where we were totally surrounded by green sea turtles, parrot fish, king angel fish, sergeant major fish and creole fish. This was some of the best snorkeling that we have had so far in our trip around the Islands. After the snorkeling, we needed to do some exercise to warm up so we landed at the most pristine place in all of Galápagos, Fernandina Island, where we walked over a dry river of lava that was completely full of marine iguanas. It was quite hard not to step on them, since they were everywhere. A Galápagos hawk showed up from a mangrove forest and stayed looking at us from a rock for a while. Then we spotted flightless cormorants nesting, and one of the juveniles of the nest was waiting to be fed. We were very lucky to see many things! Finally, a new sun set in paradise was telling us that this day has come to an end.
