We awoke to a beautiful morning with the sun shining, and we all felt a fresh breeze blowing on our faces. Today we had an adventure that we will never forget; most of us climbed all the way up to the rim of one of the largest calderas in the world, Sierra Negra Volcano! We were all ready and excited to partake in this activity, as still fresh in our minds was the excellent video footage that we all watched last night about the eruption of this giant, that ended just a couple of weeks ago – how exciting to go out and explore that new land, the newest yet. We all worked hard to get to the top, which is over 1000 meters above the sea level, but in the end, we received the maximum reward: a splendid view of the whole caldera, along with some fuming vents still active from the last eruption. It was what we had expected and more!

After that nice work out, we came down to the town and enjoyed our delicious lunch followed by a siesta to prepare us for our afternoon adventure. We spent time in the town area visiting the breeding center of giant tortoises, the temporary home of these prehistoric giants, where quite a few adults were seen along with some of the babies. We had a wonderful time and to top it all we took a scenic route back to the town through a series of wetlands where flamingos and wading birds were found, a real natural beauty.

We were all happy and sad; happy to have been in this magical island and sad because we had to leave it! It did not end there though; we had a group of children from the community come onboard and give a presentation of the work they are doing in their community to help with the preservation of the namesakes of Galapágos, the tortoises.

After this, we all went below to the dining room, Islander guests, staff and crew as well as our guests from Puerto Villamil, to share in a spectacular Thanksgiving buffet prepared by our Hotel Department – a true feast to end the day and celebrate in friendship and warmth.
