Isle of Skye

Our luck is holding! Despite the weather forecast predicting a rainy day here on the west coast of Scotland, we have ANOTHER gorgeous sunny day!!

After sailing to Armadale on the Isle of Skye we visit the Clan Donald Centre. This excellent museum details the history of the MacDonalds and of many other Highlanders and Islanders too. Covering subjects like the Lord of the Isles, the Jacobites and also the Clearances, we take a look at Armadale Castle, a ruin dating back to the 18th and 19th century, surrounded by beautiful gardens with stunning trees.

After lunch we coach to Sligachan, where the walkers go for a hike in the Cuillin mountains, rewarded at the end of their exploration by a pint in the historic pub.

Meanwhile those keen on castles and gardens visit Dunvegan Castle, which has been continuously inhabited for nearly 800 years. These gardens are another good example of the gulf stream’s warming influence, with many exotic plants.

After our return to the ship we sail to Inverie on the Knoydart Peninsula. This is truly remote, as it isn’t connected to the main roads and you can only sail or walk here.

For many of us this means a visit to Britain’s remotest pub in the evening, the Old Forge Inn – HAVE YOU GOT THE T-SHIRT?
