Española Island
The overcast conditions of the morning created a taciturn mood that helped all of us reminisce in the events that have surrounded the past week. Although it is our last day of this Galapágos expedition, the island of Española has provided so much excitement. Like every other day this week, today was outstanding.
The smooth white sand of Gardner Bay, with all the sea lions snoozing here and there, and the turquoise colored water was supremely invitational. It was a chance for everybody to recall their own memories, sightings and moments of their expedition. Some were mesmerized by the baby sea lions walking and playing, while others took a stroll along the beach or spend time building a sand castle Galápagos style.
In the afternoon, the hike at Punta Suarez rewarded us with the presence of the waved albatrosses. Courting, departing, landing, being albatrosses; these graceful giants were all around and their flight was really transporting and sparkled so much curiosity that we discussed extensively about their natural history. It was superb!
A large number of smaller birds surrounded us during the entire expedition. The lava lizards impressed us once again with their exquisite colors. And so it came the time to leave. But we had something else with us now.
An entire symphony performed by nature entertained our senses today. Hopefully this master piece will encourage us to promote a better planet.
