Duart Castle & Tobermory, Isle of Mull

Duart Castle is a REAL castle. It dates back to the 13th century, sitting prominently on a spit of land overlooking the Sound of Lorne. This is the clan seat of the MacLean’s of Duart, and the chief is in residence!

After this very enjoyable visit we returned to the Lord of the Glens and set sail for Tobermory. After lunch on our arrival into Tobermory the captain did a wee tour of the bay to give us a good photo op. Steve and Konia lead guided tours of the town, taking in the sights, historic places and also mentioning some of the more specialized shops, finishing off at an art gallery.

The rest of the afternoon was spent exploring, shopping, eating locally made chocolate, tasting the also locally produced whisky, and hiking.

After dinner many of us were drawn to town for a stroll by the balmy weather – or was it the pubs that drew us there?
