Isabela & Fernandina Islands

Today we found ourselves on the western part of the archipelago. Surrounded by volcanoes, we lowered our Zodiacs to explore the coastline from Isabela Island. This way we could cover much more area as this rocky shoreline is very irregular. Marine iguanas, flightless cormorants and penguins appeared before our eyes as we got closer to the shore. Today we were able to enjoy the ocean sunfish Mola mola. It is an enigma that we are trying to unveil with research and awareness. Green pacific turtles were also surrounding us like UFOs suspended in a three dimensional world.

Soon after our ride we went back to snorkel in this site. The underwater realm was just indescribable, volcanic features of different kinds timing with fish and turtles. Some of us were rewarded by a glance of the Galápagos penguins and flightless cormorants, the only two flightless birds unique to the Galápagos.

Back onboard and soon after our lunch was served we repositioned to our next visitor site, Fernandina Island. We had an impressive talk from our photo expedition experts. Reloaded we disembarked for the most pristine of our islands. We consider this island our “baby girl” since she was just born a few hours ago (by geological standards). This is the western most of all islands, Fernandina.

Marine iguanas, sally light foot crabs, sea lions, Galápagos hawks, flightless cormorants and much more wildlife, all over a black lava rock as a prop; the sun sets and we enjoy nature and a soft sunset.

This place is just magical. Very difficult to describe, my dear reader, you just have to be here to be touched by this infectious magic. We feel very proud to protect and share this last place for human kind. Wish you were here.
