Dragon Hill & Chinese Hat
At 8 o’clock in the morning we disembarked on Dragon Hill, a very prehistoric looking place situated at the northwest side of Santa Cruz Island. The name of the place is due to the bright yellow land iguanas inhabiting this place where they also nest. As we walked into the island we spotted a beautiful great blue heron resting by the tide pools on the black lava. Further inside we were amazed to encounter several land iguanas, some of them in motion being territorial with each other. I must say, we had a great time along our hike.
After heading back to the National Geographic Endeavour we left for our next adventure to explore the wonders of the waters around Guy Fawkes Islets where we saw several schools of fish, a moray eel, some sharks , and sea lions. At the end, we all had fun swimming with very interesting creatures.
Once we left Santa Cruz Island behind, we navigated towards Chinese Hat, an outstanding place for geology and marine life together. During the first outings we had our younger explorers learn how to drive Zodiacs and that was just something we all enjoyed watching. It seems like after this trip some of them will know what is going to be their next summer job!
Here we snorkeled, kayaked and even had a ride along the coast of Santiago where we spotted some penguins sitting by the rocks and some pelicans as well. At the end, we landed on a beautiful white organic sand beach where we had some much fun watching sea lion pups play with each other.
At the end, we finished our day happy to learn more about this magical world of the Galápagos, where we all know that adventure never ends. We are looking forward to seeing which wonders the islands are going to have next for us along our week aboard the National Geographic Endeavour.
