Bartolomé & Santiago Island
Being the first or the last to disembark to Bartolomé Island doesn’t really matter, as long as everyone keeps looking around for a good place to stand and think about this place. The geology of a place that lets the imagination move far and beyond the moon!!! With the contrast of the first rays of the sun, it is the closest place to Mars that we have ever been.
No matter what way you walk to the top of this old island, it takes your soul and breath away for a moment. It is just when we arrived to the last part that we realized why we came to this place.
Pictures never fail no matter what the day is like. We spent a lot of time at the second beach of Bartolome setting up our cameras to shoot to the maximum they can give. The result impresses the most talented photographer.
The afternoon was amazing. We were not finished lunch when a few dolphins joined us for a 10-minute ride at the bow of the ship. I enjoyed this encounter by looking out the windows, this time with my lunch, and thinking about the few times that these great animals are seen by people, and the emotions of every person when they see them.
During the hike on the Island of Santiago I explained a little about the geology of the place, and I couldn’t believe that a whale interrupted and showed off at the distance.
There are just too many things for such a small place, and they make me remember the privilege of working, and having fun at the same time, as a naturalist in Galápagos – what I like to do.
