Urbina Bay & Punta Moreno

This morning we navigated along one of the most beautiful avenues of volcanoes in the world. Right and left we were surrounded by the tallest structures in Galápagos: Alcedo, Sierra Negra and Cerro Azul volcanoes. We had breakfast and a wet landing on a black sand beach, with as many as twelve fresh nests from the last week. We are talking about turtles.

On land, we headed towards the coral fields that were living structures here until 1954. They used to be under water and now are exposed to the burning sun rays for everyone to see. An uplifting took place for miles of coast and changed it for ever. We saw sea creature remains such as shells and other witnesses from that time…!

Although we were exhausted, beautiful bright yellow land iguanas along the way caught our attention and we had time to enjoy them. After lunch we had a pleasant and short sailing to Punta Moreno, one of the most beautiful lava fields off the coast of Isabela.

As we disembarked on the flat black horizon, we saw nothing but Death and Desolation... “Tod und Desolation”…then, cactus and even ferns were found, finches, brackish water lagoons and flamingos displayed in front of us. Our return was indulged by a Zodiac ride along the ghostly coast…We even saw a Franklin’s gull. What a wonderful day in paradise!
