At sea, from Vanuatu to Fiji

Days at sea allow for many different experiences. Bow watching is always rewarding, and today we had nice conditions. Many flying fish were sent fleeing from the bow, spreading their pectoral fins to escape from the approaching ship. Sitting in the library and either reading or simply gazing at the waves is always popular. Pelagic birds were sparse but of quality, including storm-petrels, tropicbirds, terns, and Pterodroma petrels.

Sea time also is a time of reflection, looking back upon our amazing adventures traveling from Papua New Guinea, through the Solomons and Vanuatu. Snorkeling and diving were exceptional with clear, warm water and an incredible diversity of fish and corals. Enjoying the wrecked Zero, a Japanese freighter, and the President Coolidge certainly were highlights for many. The cultural visits were phenomenal with such amazing sights as the dancers of Kitava and the land diving on Pentecost. And who could forget the volcano on Tanna launching missiles high into the air.

This day also allows us to look forward to tomorrow. During the day, we have entered the waters of our final country, Fiji. Tomorrow we will hopefully enjoy a kava ceremony, Fijian village visit, and our last water sports activities.
