Genovesa Island

It all started with a nice rocky ride, almost like a crib putting a baby to sleep, although it was the Polaris sailing all the way up to the equator and past it to get to an isolated island where the word wildlife takes a different meaning. Our adventure began after our ship dropped anchor in the caldera of the almost pristine island of Genovesa. As we were coming to our final destination, we could see sheer cliffs that literally took our breath away; birds that seemed to defy the laws of gravity and hear the mighty waves that brought a sense of indefinite peace to all of us. This is the magic that flows from this beautiful island.

Our morning was an interesting one. Some of us took a long walk in which we had the opportunity of stepping in what seemed to be a land dominated by nesting birds such as frigates, red-footed boobies and swallow-tailed gulls. We have all watched a great number of documentaries and often thought that all the life shown in those cannot possibly be, but today we felt as if we were right in one of those wildlife filled documentaries! At the end of our walk. we arrived at this astounding white coralline beach where sea lion pups were doing acrobatics by the shore and birds watching us go about our activities as if we were just another species there.

Today was one of our best encounters with nature, something we will remember for a long time. The afternoon was also filled with activities for all ages, sizes and tastes! We offered walks, Zodiac rides, kayaking and Zodiac driving lessons for our youngsters (the later being an interesting experience!).
