Northern Mayotte, French Comoros

After a peaceful night at anchor off Dzaoudzi, we sailed to the northern half of Mayotte in search of idyllic beaches. Lo and behold we discovered the “Perfect” beach, the actual name for this beautiful stretch of white sandy beach surrounded by lush tropical forest.

There was the chance to go ashore and relax on the beach or be a bit more active and use the kayaks to explore the shoreline. Yet, the highlight of the morning was in the water with the chance to dive or snorkel. There was an incredible coral drop-off just off the beach, and the snorkel platform allowed us a chance to see all the wonders of this coral garden.

The healthy reef was full of soft corals and thousands of reef fish. It felt like we jumped into a warm, clear, turquoise blue aquarium. All you could hear was “Wow” and “Isn’t this beautiful?” as we swam along the reef discovering a few new species along the way. It was a wonderful morning and a ‘perfect’ way to end our time in the French Comoros!
