Isabela & Fernandina Islands
Today at around 6:10 in the morning I was turning on the microphone to wake up our guests. I could not avoid sharing the sincere happiness I felt to observe through the window a glorious sunrise that was appearing little by little on the horizon. A big group of clouds were covering Wolf Volcano, painting a canvas of colorful exaltation. Without any doubt, I can tell you that I believed that this inspirational beginning would make my day, but more was to come…
After crossing the equatorial line we took a Zodiac cruise along the coast line of Ecuador Volcano. We observed several Galápagos sea lions, flightless cormorants, marine iguanas and many more animal species like the bizarre-looking giant ocean sunfish (Mola mola).
After this ride we went to snorkel. This outing was extraordinary; we observed many highly endangered Pacific green sea turtles swimming at a very close range. Some guests had the thrill of swimming with Galápagos penguins!
On our way to Fernandina Island a huge pod of common dolphins was spotted. We all came to the outer decks to witness with our hearts and minds this exciting sighting. With joy and admiration we observed how several members of the dolphin pod leaped out from the water, rising up several feet in the air. Exclamations of emotion and appreciation inundated the atmosphere. The afternoon found us walking on Punta Espinoza on Fernandina Island. The most exquisite combination of young black lava flows, blue oceans, clear sky and magnificent volcanoes made us think that is good to be alive to be able to live a dream. This dream come true, the one we experienced today, is our expedition around this magical archipelago.
