British Virgin Islands
The moon faded as the sun rose above the horizon to our stern, sending a pink tint over the sails of Sea Cloud II. The canvas was still up from the afternoon before as we had begun our voyage across the Anegada Passage. This morning the islands of the British Virgins were on the horizon as more sails were set and we entered the Sir Francis Drake Passage past Round Rock and Ginger Island. With islands to the port and starboard of us we were the centre of attraction as yachts came close to take pictures and a huge cruise ship passed to investigate this glistening beauty with almost all her sails set.
Out on the Lido Deck, Lennox gave us an introduction to the geography of the Lesser Antilles, ending as we turned out of the main channel and headed for Jost van Dyke where we anchored off White Bay. Landing on the powder white beach by Zodiac we went our favoured ways; snorkelling with Berit, hiking to Great Bay with Lennox or just cooling out on beach chairs and taking a dip in the turquoise waters in front of Gertrude’s Beach Bar.
Sunset saw us all aboard with drinks tinkling on deck as the islands appeared like cut out cardboard silhouettes against a flaming sky. Slipping out of Sir Francis Drake’s Passage during dinner we made our way under the stars towards St. Kitts, our next destination.
