Floreana Island
Today we visited the first ever inhabited island of the archipelago. A trip to the human history of the islands started at 7:00am as we disembarked at Post Office Bay. This place is known to be the oldest mailing system in the Pacific.
After breakfast we went for a Zodiac Ride around Champion Islet to look for the Floreana Mockingbird. This bird went extinct on the main island, but a very small population has survived in Champion. Galápagos sea lions were the stars of the morning. At the time we were on the Zodiac ride they started playing around us, inviting us to swim with them later on, so we did. The snorkeling session was outstanding; we had a great time with the playful sea lions and hundreds of bright fish.
In the afternoon we went to a different location. This time our visitor site was Punta Cormorant. In fact, there are no cormorants there but this site was named after a ship that wrecked on the place. Kayaking was our first option, and later on we walked around a brackish water lagoon where we found Greater Flamingos. The highlight of the day was the sighting of a young flamingo that still conserved its whitish coloration.
After walking for a while we arrived to the most beautiful white coralline beach you can imagine. We came back onboard as the sun was setting in the horizon.
