Floreana

Floreana looks more beautiful today than ever! The cold season is giving in and although the water temperature is still chilly for the month, we can already feel the warmer air and the clear skies. We had an early morning visit to Post Office Bay and delivered our free mail there. Future travellers will take our messages around the world in the next days, and hand deliver to our family and friends. As we returned for our breakfast, we felt the slightly warmer waters of Champion Island and let some sea lions play with us as drift wood. Our lunch was delicious and rich in Ecuadorian flavours, sending us directly to the famous Ecuadorian “siesta”, essential in our culture and a strategy for survival in tropical regions of the world. Our afternoon was spared in kayaking and beach activities together with a little bit of geology, as we had the opportunity to admire the tuff formations around the shores of Floreana. A fine way to finish the year! After dinner we celebrated New Year’s Eve the Ecuadorean way, burned the effigy representing the bad things of the year ending, and danced until sunrise!
