Hood Island
Last night we left Seymour Island and sailed towards the southeast. We had a great smooth navigation and arrived to Hood Island in the early hours of the day.
This morning we explored Punta Suarez. For us, it is one of the most amazing places; we found many marine iguanas displaying their green and red colors. We encountered several individuals shaking their heads; others were warming up under the intense equatorial sun. This is the time of the year when we see iguanas mating and perhaps in the coming weeks the females will start their egg-laying season.
All along the way we had Nazca boobies, swallow tailed gulls, Hood lava lizards, and some mating doves. For land birds, the warm wet season is when they begin to nest and we even found a couple of small ground finches looking busy while checking a nice nest.
After a short navigation we arrived to Gardner Bay where we went swimming, snorkeling, kayaking and also had a ride on our glass bottom boat. We all enjoyed our time in this astonishing place, not only because of all the activities we could do, but also because of the free time we could take to sit down next to a group of sea lions and turn into one of their “harem.”
On the other hand, we could also choose just to have some time of solitude for ourselves and listen to all the natural sounds and be part of nature.
