Isla Espiritu Santo, Baja California Sur, Mexico
If you have the opportunity of hiking and enjoying a place like Isla Espiritu Santo (Holy Ghost Island), you take it. Today was such a day, We entered Bahia Cardonal on this island in the morning, and after breakfast immediately set out to hike to the other side of the island, an easy half-hour walk. Because of the Niño Year, the vegetation has been green and lush. Many plants are flowering, such as the nightshades and the blue morning glories, adding a lovely hue to the area. A great amount of cacti were observed, topped by the giant cardón.
Around midday we returned to the ship for lunch, and all afternoon we spent on another nearby beach with lovely sand, where the children had the fun of their trip, and some of us hiked again in the lovely desert, where we saw many different animals, including a chuckwalla , lizards, beetles and a fantastic tarantula hawk with orange wings and a metallic-blue body.
This small cove was home to a large mangrove, which is a home to many schooling fish, and the pelicans worked them all day long, as well as whimbrels, reddish egrets and a willet. Ospreys screamed overhead. And the day ended with a fantastic sunset, just another fantastic day in Baja California!
