Los Islotes

This morning was gray and cool as we ventured into the water for a wild animal experience we would not soon forget. Los Islotes is home to a group of California sea lions and is both a haul out and a rookery for them. The sounds coming from the mix of males, females and youngsters was overwhelming at times. The snorkeling was amazing as the small pups swam around and then landed on some of us. After snorkeling, Zodiac cruises were done on the south side of the islets and many bird species including great blue herons, frigate birds, and blue-footed boobies were witnessed as well as the above mentioned behaviors of the sea lions.

After lunch the ship repositioned to the southern side of Espiritu Santo for walks and kayaking. The gray skies continued which gave us the chance to enjoy a nice cool afternoon walk without getting too hot. The endemic black jackrabbit was seen sprinting along the hillside and was a highlight of our last walk in Baja California.
