Boca de Soledad & Hull Canal
The National Geographic Sea Lion was anchored overnight at Boca De Soledad. Our day began today with a wake-up call at 7 a.m. for an early expedition.
At 7:30 a.m., the first group of guests was whisked by Zodiacs through the thick fog for another round of whale watching. We were soon joined by groups of playful bottlenose dolphins swimming alongside our Zodiacs. By mid-morning, the clouds parted for the sun, and we were greeted by a mother and her baby gray whale swimming at a leisurely pace, gently gliding through the tranquil waters of Bahia Magdalena.
Back on board, our video chronicler, David Pickar, showed us a preview of the sights and excitements captured on the first couple of days of this week's voyage. After this, the NG Sea Lion headed south down the Hull Canal. The sun's warm rays bathed the upper deck where we enjoyed lunch al fresco with ice cream sundaes for dessert.
This afternoon, the NG Sea Lion anchored off the dunes of Isla Magdalena. We walked across and sank our feet into the soft, powdery sand. The dunes were dotted with flowering desert plants. A short hike brought us to the Pacific Ocean onto a gorgeous beach in Bahia Santa Maria, where we found palm-sized sand dollars. A dip in the Pacific Ocean waves was most refreshing!
This evening, Captain David Sinclair joined us for a delicious, farewell dinner.
