Golfo Dulce
After a brief stop at Golfito, a former banana harbor, the National Geographic Sea Lion began the exploration of the inner side of one of the most important tropical gulfs, not only for the national parks that surround it, but also because of its unique geological origin. Among many particularities, its deepness allows us to enjoy the deep sea blue color in very calm waters.
Around 8:30 we anchored close to shore, and disembarked everyone to receive a warm welcome by Roy and Trudy McAllister, the owners of Casa Orquidea’s garden. We found an impressive collection of all sorts of tropical plant species arranged in a beautiful display.
After passing the morning exploring the trails, many of us returned to the NG Sea Lion to get a refreshing swim in the deep sea blue waters of Golfo Dulce.
We lifted the anchor and continued our voyage to the inner side of the Golfo Dulce. Along the side we had the chance to enjoy a school of pantropical spotted dolphins, and as soon as we arrived at Rio Rincon, the second outing of our day took place.
This time we went to explore the fantastic mangroves of Rio Rincon by Zodiac or by kayak. We enjoyed lots of egrets, a mangrove hawk, green kingfisher and many other water birds that find food and shelter in this beautiful area where we ended our day.
