Corcovado National Park

Our second day of exploration!

Today we arrived at one of our favorite destinations, Corcovado National Park.

Corcovado is located on the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica on the outer side of the Southern Peninsula of Osa. Corcovado is one of the most remote areas of Costa Rica. It is beyond a doubt, off the beaten path. It is not accessible by road, only by water using small boats with experienced captains able to disembark on rough oceans.

We have no worries though, because we have been blessed by calm waters and great weather. We have local experienced Zodiac captains on board, capable of taking us ashore safely no matter what that weather.

Before the break of dawn, we were awoken by the PA system morning update. Today the tide was just right for us to be able to Zodiac cruise through the Agujitas River in the Drake Bay area. As soon as we had a cup of coffee and some pastries we were ready to load the Zodiacs and venture the beautiful pristine river. As soon as we cleared the mouth of the river, we were welcomed by howler monkeys munching on their leafy breakfast, and scarlet macaws noisily flying above our heads on their way to beach almond trees by the coast.

We love the early mornings! The air is so clean and fresh!

It was such a nice moment through the river!

After returning to the ship for a formal breakfast, we were ready for more exploration! After relocating the ship to the nearby Caletas area, we disembarked for walks in the forest and a barbecue lunch on the beach.

All of our walks were successful with great sittings of wildlife! White faced monkeys, more howler monkeys, chestnut-mandibled toucans, scarlet macaws, golden-hooded tanagers, white-throated shrike tanagers, white-whiskered puffbirds, black-throated trogons and several other sightings.

Busy day! But we want more!

After our hefty barbecue lunch on the beach, we relocated again to the San Pedrillo sector of Corcovado National Park for more walks. Guest chose between a waterfall walk and a walk though the Pargo River area.

Even more monkeys sightings! Acrobatic spider monkeys, swiftly and efficiently moving through the dense forest canopy, on their way to their communal roosting tree to spend the night.

From dawn till dusk! We’ve been quite active today!

It was another great day in the tropics! Great weather, great experiences, in great company!
