Krk National Park & Sibenik

In Croatia they have an old saying, "Tko rano rani dvije srecé grabi" which – loosely translated – means "he who gets up early gets two fortunes." Hopefully this is true, because our day in Sibernik started with an early anchoring of the Panorama.

After breakfast we headed up towards Krk National Park. The park sports a beautiful series of waterfalls with a path leading visitors through its natural treasures. Some decided to stay and visit the local museum and cafés, others followed our Croatian guides on a walk through the park, and the brave plunged into the waterfalls for a swim or took a powerwalk with yours truly through the forest. After the walk we all refueled with fresh cherries, roasted nuts, and beautiful fig necklaces sold by women on the side of the road.

Back in Sibernik our guide walked those who were still hungry for exploration to St. Jacobs Cathedral. This beautiful architectual masterpiece is on UNESCO’s World Heritage list and amongst other things famous for the 72 meticulously sculpted faces that decorate its exterior. Those who had a hunger of the more traditional sort headed straight back to the ship for the lovely lunch buffet.

The afternoon was spent lazying on board. Our National Geographic Expert Grace Fielder held a talk named The Fourth Crusade and later on in the evening our naturalist Sharon Grainger showed a beautiful slideshow of the local flora and fauna including pictures she had taken during the last few days.

After dinner we anchored close to our next day’s destination - Hvar. A small group of people stayed up playing cards, but most of us decided on an early evening and a good night’s rest.

Tomorrow is a new exciting day full of adventures, and remember - Tko rano rani dvije srecé grabi.
