Delos & Mykonos

It is Friday morning and after our overnight sailing from Aegina Island, the Panorama anchored between the tiny uninhabited islands of Reinia and Delos. It seems like the god of wind, Aeolus, and the god of the Sea, Poseidon, must have overslept this morning because we were offered a very pleasant visit at the archeological site of Delos. Both the god Apollo and the goddess Artemis were born here. The only thing that reminds us that this island used to be the busiest and wealthiest port of the eastern Mediterranean Sea is the numerous ruined temples, forgotten agoras and empty private villas. One god that was present though was Apollo, who offered us his light – the eternal Apollonian light.

By noon we got back to Panorama with our cameras full of pictures of the only inhabitants still living on the island today: lizards, frogs, insects and wild flowers. We cooled off by jumping off the stern into the refreshing waters of the Aegean Sea and got ourselves ready for this afternoon’s presentation – a Greek language class. The guests almost spoke fluent Greek by the time some dolphins decided to come and visit us.

In the late afternoon we visited Mykonos. We strolled in the town, the Chora, had many Kodak moments by the windmills and the little Venice and, as the sun went down, enjoyed a nice glass of Ouzo.
