Genovesa Island
A brand new year has just begun. By the way, Happy New Year! To all of you who follow our daily reports, to all of you who have been here with us and for all that are planning to visit us in the future, we wish you the best!
A bright sun shining high up in the sky was a great companion for our expeditions during the whole day. We spent the first day of this New Year on a true nature-lover’s paradise. The amount and approachability of wildlife on this small island is certainly impressive. All over the island it is possible to enjoy the pleasure of watching bird species carrying on their lives in the most pristine way it can be. What a fantastic way to start a new year, isn’t it?! One of the big attractions today, by a quick consensus, was the many juvenile boobies we spotted. Some of them are in the process of losing their downy feathers. The remaining soft plumage among their new feathers gives them a very comical appearance. Some boobies looked like they had just woken up or were having a “bad-hair-day.” In this age of their development juvenile boobies are very curious as well. With inquisitive eyes the young birds try to follow our movements and reactions. At one point you really feel that you are not the observer anymore, you become the observed. These kinds of situations are hard to describe. If you like animals, these experiences are both strong and touching at the same time. Can you feel the curiosity and fascination of the young bird through the picture?
