Española Island

A potentially hot walk this morning turned out to be blessed with clouds and wind, allowing us to fully appreciate the action Punta Suarez had to offer us today. As we ambled through the thickening bushes, we came upon several marine iguanas nesting. In one particular area there were several engaged in some serious territorial fighting. As they dig their nest, they become susceptible to bigger females who want to steal their hard work from them.

Our wet landing this afternoon proved to be wetter than normal with an unusually high tide. It created an enormous pool behind the beach where seal lions and humans alike, sought refuge from the rough sea. In the above photo both species wallowed, relaxed and connected.
