Floreana Island
The marine life of this Archipelago is exceptionally rich, especially for the tropics. The combination of cool, up welling waters in some parts, and warm, tropical waters in others, accounts for the astounding diversity of marine creatures. To enter and examine this environment is a must, if you wish to really experience a thorough exploration of the Galapagos. Much of the fearlessness that we find in the inhabitants above water, continues beneath the waves. You can get extremely close to the fish since spear gun hunting has been forbidden. Turtles are easily approached and sea lions will swim toward you. Believe me, it is quite an experience to play underwater “chicken” with a sea lion!
Today’s picture shows a pacific burrfish moving gracefully through the water.
