Boná and Estivá Islands, Panama Pacific Coast
After two days exploring and crossing the Panama Canal, today we woke up on the Pacific side of the isthmus. The waters were flat and blue perfect for the activities we had planned for the day. For those of us who got up before breakfast, around 6:00 a.m., the bow of the ship is the meeting place. As we approached our new destination brown boobies followed our course, they were chasing after the flying fish the ship scared away as it moved along. It was so much fun to see these well adapted birds, plunge into the water for their early meal.
At 7:30 a.m. Marco, our hotel manager, announced that breakfast was ready and as usual fresh tropical fruits were available: papaya, pineapple, oranges, melons, and guavas. The morning advanced calmly and the sun was out. Coming from the cold north many of us we were very happy to be in this area of the world. Right after breakfast our faithful Zodiacs waited for us at the stern to begin the cruising around two islands Boná and Estivá. Zodiac cruises are the best! The islands rewarded us with the sight of magnificent frigatebirds, brown and blue-footed boobies, brown pelicans, and the beautiful scenery of rocky ledges and dark caves.
Directly after the cruises, kayaking was in order. For some of us it was the first time, for others another one of many days to enjoy this great sport. Back on board we had lunch and began a long journey to our next destination, Pantropical spotted dolphins escorted us as we advanced on the deep blue waters of the Pacific Ocean.
