Floreana Island
Today was a day of records. Most of our guests, and I mean almost everyone on board, opted for the pre-breakfast outing. They wanted to enjoy the early morning hours, and they were rewarded with much more than a pretty Zodiac ride. We encountered friendly penguins nipping at the rubber of the Zodiacs, as if they were asking for a ride. We found sea turtles mating, and far in the distance, we distinguished our old friend, the albino sea lion. The sea lion is no longer a baby and even though it was far away from us, we recognized her because of her pink nose and fins. She is also not that white anymore.
After breakfast almost everyone went into the water. The sea was just perfect! Many people saw sharks, many glimpsed sea turtles, and we all encountered (of course) playful sea lions.
But we still had more activities to offer. Most of our guests experienced the glass-bottom boat. And again, most of them went for a Zodiac ride to look for one of the rarest birds in the planet, the Floreana mockingbird.
Could you believe that we did this all before lunch? And after lunch there was even more. Greater flamingoes feeding, shore birds and unique flora. When we were getting ready to come back on board, right before sunset, we found a turtle climbing out of its nest and then successfully running to the ocean. We witnessed the beginning of a new life today!
