Floreana Island
The Galapagos Islands are by all means a true laboratory of evolution! Every day we admire evolutionary processes. Today we spent the whole day in Floreana, which is one of the four inhabited islands of this archipelago. We got to visit three different locations and many of our guests had the opportunity to snorkel around Champion Islet.
We saw large schools of tropical fishes, but sea lions were the stars of the morning. They played with all of us; it was a lot of fun to see their flexible bodies under the water. Sometimes they were like teasing us, and when we left they followed us for a while, as if saying, “don’t go, please stay longer”.
In the afternoon we landed at Cormorant Point, which is a great place for botanists. We got to see some endemic plant genera. They became endemic because their ancestors were isolated long enough to evolve.
It was a full and successful day and we celebrated it with a barbecue dinner on the teak deck.
