Fernandina and Isabela Islands
It is truly fascinating to observe the natural world at its best. Fernandina and Isabela islands are, without any doubt, spectacular. Breathtaking volcanic settings are home to the most unusual species. Early in the morning, a cheerful pod of striped dolphins gave us a warm welcome to this part of the archipelago. Big piles of marine iguanas were found everywhere. Sally light foot crabs added surrealistic colors to the darkest lava fields that you can imagine. Countless Pacific green sea turtles were observed both from the Zodiacs and underwater while snorkeling. Unique endemic bird species like the emblematic flightless cormorant and the Galapagos penguin were found in this western realm of the Galapagos as well.
The beauty and peace you encounter here, at one point made me wonder…was all the beauty that we experienced today true? Or was it just a dream? Today was one of those days when it is difficult to find an answer to these questions. We had the privilege to visit the most pristine place that you can imagine.
