Española Island
While visiting the Galapagos Islands, our visitors always develop very strong impressions. One of the most interesting things about these islands and what turns into a lifetime memory is how indifferent the animals are to our presence. And it is true; one cannot avoid being amazed by the fact that a bird or a reptile does not move away from people. It seems like every single creature is oblivious about our presence. There are very few places on Earth where you can still experience this intimate contact with nature, and the Galapagos Islands are one of the most famous of them. They are a real Garden of Eden, where the inhabitants carry on their lives in harmony. Today was not the exception. Many Nazca boobies were seen during our morning walk, watching us from their nesting sites. Some of them had chicks. It was truly magical to be able to experience something that sounds illogical, parent birds with chicks not minding our nearby presence. Even more than that, the birds were acting completely naturally, grooming and taking care of their offspring.
The ecological conditions of this paradise provoke this peculiar behavior. Animals are not concerned about us simply because we are not considered a threat or danger. I think this behavioral trait, among many others, is one of the reasons I like this place so much.
