Isla Española

Today we were blessed by the incredible biodiversity found on the island of Española. Early in the morning, trying to avoid the summer heat, we disembarked in an area called Punta Suarez. As soon as we set foot on the island we could see how special this place was. Hundreds of marine iguanas were just awakening from the long, cold night and were welcoming the warmth coming from the first sunrays.

Sea lions and their pups were also starting to show just a little bit of activity. Since they are famous for their lazy behavioural habits, most of them were still laying on the sand, showing us the thing that do best, sleep!

Later in the morning, after collecting our snorkeling gear for the week, we headed towards the snorkeling area, which seemed to promise a great snorkeling excursion.

Our snorkeling after lunch did not let us down. Hundreds of fish of different species were concentrated in the rich nutrient-filled waters of Turtle Rock. Our most experienced snorkelers enjoyed the fascinating underwater landscape of the area, while some of the other guests, especially the kids, enjoyed the beach and the sea lions at Gardner Bay, which is considered by most of the Galapagos naturalists to be a paradise on earth.
