Bartolome Island
The sun is rising while our guests on board the Polaris start to get ready for a new day of adventures. So with the first rays of light, many get on board the Zodiacs to visit an island with several volcanoes and a wonderful view. This is Bartolome; a relatively small island covered by at least 20 parasitic spatter cones.
The hike to the top of the island fulfills the hearts of those who woke up early. But the island has more to offer. After breakfast we land on the beach for a walk over a sand dune to the other side of the island where hawks fly over and green sea turtles nest. Snorkelers explore the underwater world around this tiny island. They encounter sharks and a “constellation” of sea stars. The sea is a little rough, which gives our younger ones the chance to do some body surfing, just as we learned from sea lions in the days before.
It is amazing the amount of beauty found on one island and the many activities we can do in a full morning in the sunny Galapagos Islands.
